Are Codecademy Certificates Useful for Landing Internships?

I'm 17 and have a lot of free time right now, so I'm diving deep into learning Python, JavaScript, React, and Swift because I want to become an AI engineer. With university starting next year, my goal isn't just to get a CS degree, but to maximize my time and secure a high-paying internship in my first year. I know I need to create impressive projects alongside my studies, but I'm using Codecademy for the fundamentals instead of going through long video playlists. My question is: will the certificates I earn from Codecademy actually be beneficial when applying for internships? I'd appreciate any insights on the certificates and how I should approach my learning!

Honestly, Codecademy certificates aren't worth much at all. They're just completion certificates showing you sat through the classes, not that you've actually mastered the material. Real certificates from companies like Microsoft or AWS require passing exams that demonstrate your expertise.

In the software engineering field, it's less about having certificates and more about the knowledge you can apply. When applying for internships, hiring managers care more about what you've learned and how you’ve used that knowledge. The only time a certificate really counts is if it’s something like an AWS certification.

Building and deploying an app that gets real users is the best thing you can do. While Codecademy can give you a solid foundation for your computer science courses, don't forget that CS is about understanding technology deeply and being able to create and maintain applications.

Not really. Codecademy certificates are more like participation trophies—they're nice to have but don’t carry much weight in the professional world. What really matters is what you can demonstrate in terms of skills and projects, not just the certificate itself.
