I'm curious about the Crucial P3 Plus NVMe drive since it's more affordable than the WD Black SN850X. Is one better than the other, or does it really not make a difference?

It really depends on the type of NAND flash used in the drive. The brand doesn't matter as much compared to the NAND type. For example, the P3 Plus uses QLC, which can slow down significantly during heavy write operations. Ideally, you should go for a TLC drive instead, which aren’t that much more expensive. You might want to check out options like the Teamgroup MP44L, which could be a more reliable choice over the P3 Plus. The SN850X is a TLC drive with DRAM and is technically superior, but many budget TLC drives perform well enough for everyday use, like as your main OS drive if you're not tight on cash.
I just had a brain aneurysm trying to understand all that.
