Are KDE Themes Safe to Use?

Hey folks! I recently switched from Windows to Linux Mint, and now I've made the leap to Debian 13 with KDE Plasma as my desktop environment. I'm diving into customizing KDE and getting into the whole "ricing" thing. I've heard some concerns about installing themes, widgets, and plasma add-ons, specifically that they can run code and might pose risks. Is that true? What steps can I take to ensure I stay safe? Also, where should I look for reliable themes? I'm still a beginner here. Thanks for any advice!

In general, using KDE themes is pretty safe as long as you don't run any software you don't trust. Just be cautious about themes that do more than just change visuals—those could potentially lead to issues.

So it's mainly about not running anything sketchy? That makes sense!

Be careful with full themes that change layouts; those can execute code and might be more dangerous. Simpler themes usually pose less risk, but it's best to do some research before installing anything.

Yeah, overall, KDE themes are safe! You'd have to be really unlucky to face a problem after years of millions of users using custom themes without issues. Don't let the overly cautious comments get to you!

Good to know! Do you have suggestions for good theme sources besides the KDE Store?
