Are My NVMe SSD’s Write Speeds Normal?

I recently got a Legion Slim 5 16APH8 laptop and just checked the read and write speeds of my NVMe SSD. The read speed is over 7000 MB/s, which is great, but the write speed is only between 1000 to 1500 MB/s. I've seen videos online mentioning that the write speed should be around 6000 MB/s. I've tested it in safe mode to limit background processes, and I also noted that my SSD is around 15% to 20% empty. It seems like there's a discrepancy, yet I don't experience any delays. Can anyone help me understand why my write speed is so low?

From what I've seen in benchmarks, you should ideally be getting at least 4000 MB/s for write speeds on a drive like yours. It looks like there's definitely a gap there, but the exact reasons can vary.

Interesting! So any thoughts on why I might not be reaching those speeds?

Have you checked the speeds using CrystalDiskMark? It might give you a clearer picture of your SSD's performance. Just curious what results you got!

Yeah, I did check! It showed around 7000 MB/s for read and 1100 to 1900 MB/s for write.

Honestly, whether the write speed is 1500 MB/s or 6000 MB/s, you probably wouldn’t notice much of a difference in day-to-day use. But it's worth knowing the specifics of the test you watched, like file sizes and your CPU specs. Your SSD seems to be functioning just fine!

I get that, but I'm still curious why the write speeds are lower. My CPU is an AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS, in case that affects anything.
