Are My Ryzen 9600X Temps Normal with a Noctua NH-D15 Cooler?

I just upgraded from a Ryzen 5600X to a Ryzen 9600X and I've noticed that my temperatures seem a bit high. What should I be expecting for idle and load temperatures on the 9600X with a Noctua NH-D15 cooler? Right now, my idle temperature is around 42°C, but when I'm gaming, it spikes to about 72°C, and during video re-encoding with ffmpeg, it hits around 75°C. An antivirus scan can push it up to 87°C, which is concerning compared to my 5600X. I've got pretty good case airflow with 6 be quiet! fans and I used the Noctua thermal paste. I'm also using low noise adaptors for the cooler fans, which don't spin over 1200-1300 rpm. Are these temperatures acceptable for the Ryzen 9600X, or should I be worried?

Those temps do seem higher than you'd expect. The 9600X with a big cooler like yours should ideally stay below 60°C with peaks around 70°C. It might be worth checking your case airflow setup or how the cooler is mounted.

What are your PBO and wattage settings? If you're running in eco mode, those temps should be lower. But if you’re pushing the power limits, it can easily soar past 90°C. Consider tweaking your settings for better thermal performance.

Is your Noctua D15 the newer version with the offset mount for AMD CPUs? The hot spot for the 9600X is offset, so if the cooler isn't properly centered, it might not be cooling as effectively. Make sure you've got an even layer of thermal paste too.

Your temps are a bit on the high side, especially with a cooler like the NH-D15, but they're not alarming. You've got a thermal throttle limit of 95°C, so you're still within safe limits. I wouldn't stress too much about it just yet. Gaming will naturally raise the temps, but they sound manageable overall.
