Are the specs for this gaming PC a good deal?

I'm in the market for a gaming PC but honestly, I don't know much about them and I'm worried about getting ripped off. Here are the specs I'm looking at:
- CPU: Ryzen 7 9700X
- Motherboard: Asus b650
- RAM: 32GB DDR5
- GPU: RTX 4070 SUPER
- Storage: 4TB SSD

The total cost is $1900 CAD or $1385 USD. I mainly translate content (yeah, a lot of adult novels) and play The Sims 4 with some mods. The PC is for these purposes only. By the way, I'm not actually paying for it; my work covers tech expenses up to around $2k. So, I'm really wondering if this setup is worth that price. Any advice would be super helpful! Thanks!

For what you need, you could get a decent Intel or AMD build for way less. There are prebuilt machines that could fit your needs just fine for half the price. I'd suggest checking out what's available in prebuilt options.

I can't build, so if I were to get a prebuilt or custom build, where should I go?

Honestly, you don't really need that high-spec PC just for translation and playing Sims 4. You could probably manage with a much cheaper build. If you're just going to do translation and basic gaming, something around $700 should suffice.

What range should I be looking at?

I did some quick math and I think the parts you listed could be around $600 max, unless some of them are used, which could lower the value. I’d say you might try pitching around $1100-$1200 instead. If you're mainly translating and playing Sims, there's no need to overspend on high-end parts.

How much is it worth if the parts are used vs new? Is using used parts common in PC building?

You might want to plug those specs into PCPartPicker to compare prices. If a 5070 is cheaper than the 4070 Super, that could be an option worth considering. You might also find better deals there!

Thank you! I'll check this out.
