Are There Modern On-Premises Alternatives to Entra Besides Active Directory?

I'm looking for alternatives to Entra for managing Windows devices but want options that aren't cloud-based. I've heard some people say that Active Directory is considered "legacy", but I'm not sure why. I'm curious if there are any modern on-premises solutions out there that can effectively manage Windows systems without relying on cloud services.

Don't buy into the idea that AD is outdated! It's still the leading solution for Windows management. If you're searching for alternatives, you might find some tools out there, but they could fall short in terms of functionality and support. Stick with AD unless you have a specific reason to switch.

A lot of people challenge the idea that Active Directory is "legacy". It's still very much the standard for Windows environments, providing solid management and security features. While there are alternatives, like FreeIPA or Samba, they might not match the robustness of AD. If you're looking to manage a traditional Windows setup, AD remains the go-to option.

Honestly, calling Active Directory legacy seems a bit off base. It's still widely used and highly effective for on-prem management. If you need an alternative, you can check out some new solutions, but keep in mind that transitioning away from AD can be a lot of work. For most people managing Windows networks, AD really is the best shot.
