I'm a recent graduate looking to break into the DevOps field. I'm curious if there are entry-level opportunities available for freshers, or do most companies look for experienced candidates? Also, what skills or certifications would be beneficial for someone just starting out in this area?

Most DevOps positions are better suited for folks with more experience. To excel in this area, you typically need to be a strong developer or have a solid ops background first.
I have hired fresh graduates too, but I tell them upfront that the learning curve will be steep. So far, it's worked out well for us!
While many say freshers shouldn't start in DevOps, I believe it can work out well in companies where strong practices are established and there's a mentoring system in place. My team actually hires recent graduates and it’s been a great experience!
DevOps roles usually require some experience, like having a SysAdmin background or being a software engineer. Generally, I wouldn't hire someone right out of college unless they're truly exceptional.
I personally avoid hiring fresh grads since DevOps demands a lot of context about how cloud platforms, applications, and Linux operate. Starting as a software engineer, learning Python, and getting familiar with Linux and Kubernetes can set you on the right path. Cloud certifications often don't hold much value.
