Best Antivirus and EDR Options for Older Windows Server Systems

I'm looking for recommendations on antivirus and endpoint detection and response (EDR) solutions that can run on older systems, specifically Windows Server 2012 and 2008. We've suggested upgrading these systems, but the client isn't interested and insists they know better. What AV products could work for these outdated operating systems to provide at least a bit of security? Thanks for your help!

For antivirus and EDR, you still have some options like SentinelOne and Huntress. BitDefender and ESET can also work for AV. Just a heads up, I'd recommend having the client sign a liability waiver if they refuse upgrades, given how risky those older systems are.

Honestly, I suggest reevaluating your relationship with that client. If they think they know better, maybe it's time to step back and let them handle the risks themselves.

Not every client is worth keeping. If they're aware of the risks but refuse to upgrade, you might have to decide whether to stay or move on. I've been in similar situations where maintaining the contract just wasn't worth it.

We’ve been using Mandiant with success on those older servers—it’s a solid choice if you're looking for something that still maintains effectiveness. ESET is also compatible with Windows Server 2012 R2, which might be helpful if any servers are still running that.
