Hey everyone! I'm building my first gaming PC and could really use some advice. I'm looking to pair a CPU and motherboard with an RX 9070 XT, and I want to make sure I get the right components without breaking the bank. My budget's around $1500, and I've been checking out Microcenter for some good bundles. I'm mostly aiming for a gaming setup (ideally 1440p) but might also do some Photoshop and GIS work on the side.
Initially, I was considering the 7900 XT with the 7800X3D, but the advice I've read suggests putting more emphasis on the GPU instead of the CPU, so I shifted focus to the RX 9070 XT. Right now, the CPU bundles I'm eyeing are:
1. **7600X3D with ASUS B650E-E, 32GB DDR5-6000**
2. **7700X with ASUS B850-PLUS, 32GB DDR5-6000**
From what I've gathered, the 7600X3D is generally better for gaming but I'm curious about the PCIe 5 support in the 7700X bundle. Is it worth giving up the better CPU for a motherboard that has PCIe 5? What's the real-world difference? I plan to keep this build for several years, and although I'd be okay with upgrading the CPU later, I'd like to ensure the motherboard has longevity for future GPUs/CPUs.
If the 7600X3D really is the way to go, should I also think about upgrading the motherboard to the **ASUS B650-A ROG Strix** for just an extra $20? The only major differences seem to be in memory capacity and audio ports. Would really appreciate any insights! Thanks a ton!

Definitely go for the better CPU! The PCIe Gen 4 vs 5 performance difference is slight—only about 1-1.5% with high-end cards like the 5090. For the 9070 XT, that difference won’t really matter, and the 7600X3D's 3D cache makes a bigger impact on gaming performance, especially in lower performance dips. If you’re mostly gaming, you won’t regret this choice.
Also, depending on your gaming needs and how much you use it for productivity, consider bumping up to the 9800X3D if you can manage the extra $200.

I see your point! I mainly want it for gaming, so I think the 7600X3D is looking solid. What about the other components like the PSU? Does brand matter there?
