Best GPU Upgrade Options for 1440p Gaming

I've been using my setup for about three years and can usually achieve at least 60 fps on most games. However, when I try playing at 1440p, my system struggles to keep up, especially with some games dropping below 60 fps. I'm also looking for higher fps in competitive games. My current configuration is an i5 13400f CPU, an Nvidia 4060 8GB GPU, and 32GB of 4800MHz RAM. I suspect my GPU is the bottleneck, so I'm considering upgrading to either a 5070, 5070 ti, or 9070xt for better 1440p performance, potentially aiming for 144/240 Hz. Additionally, I think I might need to upgrade my CPU to avoid bottlenecking; I'm eyeing the i5 14600k, which should work with my motherboard that supports up to 14th gen Intel. Here's the pricing in my area: 5070 - $930, 5070ti - $1325, 9070xt - $1050. Any recommendations? It's a significant investment, so I'm a bit uncertain.

Your CPU should hold up fine for 1440p gaming as long as you have a decent motherboard with a good VRM setup. Upgrading to a 5070 is a solid choice, but make sure your PSU can handle it—aim for a 600-700 watt model with at least two PCIE cables if you choose that route.

Got it! I'll make sure to upgrade the PSU as well. Maybe I'll get the GPU first and see how it runs with the 13400f before upgrading the CPU.

What games are you mainly playing? Knowing that can help narrow down the best upgrade for your needs. Also, given your current setup, you might not even need to upgrade your CPU right away. If you're playing titles like Rust and Valorant, your CPU should be fine for now at 1440p. It might be better to focus on getting a new GPU first.

I usually go back to Rust and Valorant, but I also play some AAA titles and new releases occasionally.

If you're mainly focusing on price-to-performance, the 9070 xt seems to be the best bet for gaming. It provides great value for what you're paying. But since you're investing around $1000, you might want to consider going a little higher for the 5070 ti to future-proof your setup since it’ll likely last you longer before needing another upgrade.

Considering I'll be investing that much, the 5070 ti might be worth it in the long run since I probably won't upgrade again for a long time.
