Best Hard Drive Size for Linux Mint Setup?

I'm planning to switch from Windows to Linux Mint because my hardware isn't supported by Win11, and I don't want to upgrade when I don't need more power. Currently, I have three hard drives: a 256GB SSD for my OS, a 1TB HDD for general storage (where I install less demanding programs), and a 2TB SSD for my gaming library. I've seen recommendations for minimum storage sizes that don't consider additional storage drives, so I'm wondering what size partition would be practical for my Linux Mint installation. Also, can I install software on my other drives instead of just the OS drive in Linux Mint? I really appreciate any guidance on this!

For a setup like yours, a 128GB SSD should be sufficient for Linux Mint and some basic software, as long as you keep personal files on a separate partition. However, if you're planning to use heavy applications for image editing, you might find 128GB a bit tight.

That's true! Programs like LibreOffice or OnlyOffice can quickly eat up space, so consider that when planning your drive size.

Thanks for the input! I was also thinking about using an old 128GB SSD for Windows just in case I need it for specific job tasks.

If you want to go for a dual-boot system, you can definitely share your 256GB SSD for both Linux and Windows. It can work smoothly, as long as you manage the partitions well. But, if Windows is just for emergencies, keeping them on separate drives could save you space.

Good point! I've been leaning towards keeping them on separate drives to keep things straightforward.

If you later find the need, you could also consider using a virtual machine for occasional Windows use without the hassle of dual booting.
