Best Lightweight Linux Distros for Old Laptops

I'm looking for a lightweight and low-maintenance Linux distro for my 15-year-old laptops that have Sandy Bridge i3 and i5 CPUs with integrated graphics. One laptop has 4GB RAM and the other has 6GB. Currently, I'm using KDE Neon on one, but I'm exploring lighter options as it seems like updates often break the Plasma desktop unless I manage them carefully. I'm also encountering issues with some older games due to dependency conflicts, especially since KDE Neon runs on Wayland instead of Xorg. I want something user-friendly enough so my kids can use it with minimal supervision. Any suggestions?

To explore more options, try checking out a **Ventoy Stick** for testing different distros. Websites like Distrowatch or Distrochooser can help you find popular choices. You could download a handful from the top rankings and give them a shot!

You might want to check out Q4OS with the Trinity desktop. It's lightweight, user-friendly, and doesn't have frequent major updates. Plus, it uses Xorg, which should help with your gaming compatibility.

Thanks for the suggestion! I hadn't heard of Trinity before. It sounds like it could be a good fit for us.

Honestly, Debian or Mint could work well too. Mint's desktop environments are all X11, so they should suit your needs without too many headaches. Just keep in mind the limitations of those old GPUs with low RAM for performance.

The kids already enjoy some classic games, but I appreciate the heads-up on performance. I just need to sort out some dependency issues.
