I'm looking for a Linux distribution that will optimize my gaming experience. My laptop has an Intel i5-8350U processor and an RX540 graphics card. I understand that my specs are on the lower side for gaming, so I'm in search of an OS that can help me get the most out of my setup. Any recommendations?

I've had the best luck with CachyOS for gaming. Being based on Arch, it tends to have the latest drivers and updates, so it feels smooth and fast. I've tried a few others, but CachyOS just works better for me.
Ultramarine Linux or sticking with Fedora are also good choices! Fedora is widely used and has a lot of good resources for troubleshooting, which can be super helpful.
Check out PikaOS; I've found it offers good performance for gaming. Some users have compared it favorably against others like CachyOS, though CachyOS didn’t work as well for me stability-wise. PikaOS has been impressive!
Totally agree! I've noticed a tangible performance boost with PikaOS compared to other distributions.
If gaming is your main focus, you also might want to look into Bazzite or Garuda. Almost any standard distro can handle gaming today, but don't expect them to magically optimize for lower-end hardware. Just choose one that you find easy to work with.
For new Linux users, I'd recommend trying out Linux Mint or Fedora. You won't find huge performance differences between distributions, but these are both stable and user-friendly. Just keep in mind that optimizing a low-end setup might only yield minimal improvements, like a 1-2% boost in performance, which often doesn't translate to better frame rates in games. If you want a bit of extra performance, you could disable certain Intel security flags too.
Absolutely! It's easy to get lost in the optimization rabbit hole, but often the gains are so small they barely make a difference. I've found using Fedora with Lutris and Proton works really well for gaming, providing stability and easy access to support.
Right, Fedora is solid. It gives a familiar interface, and with tools like Wine and Lutris, it covers a lot of ground for gaming.

Yeah, PikaOS looks great! Is it developed by the community?
