Best Linux Distro for My Grandma’s PC?

My grandma's Windows 10 support is ending this year, and her PC can't run Windows 11. I'm looking to install a Linux distro that would be suitable for her. I'm thinking about Linux Mint, but I'm not sure if I should go for the Debian or Ubuntu edition. Key factors for me are ease of use, automatic updates, a user-friendly interface, and minimal need for the terminal. She mainly needs Firefox, LibreOffice, Thunderbird, and a basic PDF/image viewer. Are there any other distros you'd recommend, or tips for someone who isn't tech-savvy?

Check out Aurora by Universal Blue. It's based on Fedora and is designed to be unbreakable with auto-updates, plus it has a Windows-like desktop experience.

You could also check out Zorin OS. It's designed to be straightforward and looks similar to Windows, which might help your grandma transition more easily.

If your grandma primarily uses a web browser, maybe consider ChromeOS Flex. It’s super simple to use and automatically updates itself, making it a great option for someone less tech-savvy.

Before you switch to Linux, remember you can extend Windows 10 support! But if you go the Linux route, I recommend testing out the Mint editions with a USB stick to see which one she likes best.

Linux Mint is a solid choice! It’s user-friendly and has a familiar interface that should be comfortable for your grandma. Plus, she’ll find all the software you mentioned readily available on it.
