Best Linux Distro for Software Development with Limited Internet

I'm looking for recommendations on a stable Linux distribution suited for software development. The catch is that I have limited access to the internet, so I need a distro that doesn't require frequent updates since I can't install or update easily due to some restrictions at my college. My focus is on finding something with great battery life, especially since my laptop has an Nvidia MX250 GPU, which isn't very common. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot! 🙂

To optimize battery life, make sure to power down the Nvidia GPU since it can drain your battery on lesser-known models. Any mainstream distro should be fine, but go for Ubuntu LTS if you want stability. Also, check out TLP for power management. Keep your screen brightness low and try to disable any unnecessary radios to save power.

Ubuntu is a solid choice for stability and ease of use. Everything runs smoothly on it, and it should serve you well for your development needs.

I recommend trying openSUSE Leap. It's quite similar to SUSE Linux Enterprise, which is what I use at work. Alternatively, you could consider Ubuntu LTS or its flavors. Debian is also a good option if you want stability.

Just a heads up, consider how you'll manage your internet access. If it's sporadic, any of the popular distros like Ubuntu should work fine, especially the LTS version since it focuses more on stability. However, if you're considering Arch-based distros like Manjaro, be ready for some troubleshooting since they can require a bit of googling for fix issues. But for development, using Mint might be easier with less hassle during setup.

Linux Mint has a user-friendly interface and is great for development as well. It usually requires minimal setup, so you could get started quickly.
