Best Linux Distro for ThinkPad Compatibility?

Hey everyone! I just got my hands on a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Gen 1 Yoga featuring 16GB of DDR3 RAM and an Intel i7 processor. I'm currently running KDE on Fedora 43, but I'm facing some issues: the fingerprint scanner doesn't work, and I can't seem to adjust the brightness. While getting the fingerprint scanner to work would be a nice bonus, it's not a deal-breaker. Is there a Linux distro that's better suited for this device? I'd love to hear your recommendations. Thanks for your help!

You might want to check out MX Linux. It's user-friendly and comes with solid documentation that'll help with your setup. Plus, you can try it out live from the ISO without committing to an install right away. Also, Ventoy is a fantastic tool for testing out multiple distros live on a USB stick, which can make the experimenting process easier!

Honestly, Fedora is a solid choice for up-to-date hardware support without too many sacrifices on stability. You might find that any other distro will offer similar issues, and you'll probably end up back with Fedora. Fingerprint scanner support can be tricky; sometimes it just doesn't work properly, even if it should be possible. As for the brightness controls, you might want to check out a tool called ddcutil—it helped me out before!
