I'm trying to get my friend to switch from Windows to Linux, and he's willing to try out any distro I recommend for two weeks. I started with NixOS because I wanted a system I could really mess with while I learned, but I'm not sure it's the best choice for him. I'd considered installing NixOS for him and copying over my configs, but I'm still working on my own customizations and I'm worried he might get frustrated with editing configuration files. He's okay with some command line stuff but prefers a user-friendly experience, so I think he'd have a hard time with a tiling window manager. I want something that looks nice and allows for customization through a GUI. I've been leaning toward Linux Mint with KDE since that's the DE I'm familiar with, but I'm open to suggestions!

I’m all in for Fedora, but try using the atomic version like Silverblue for a versatile setup, or even Kinoite if he’s into gaming; they both provide a modern Linux experience.
You can’t go wrong with Linux Mint! It’s simple, yet effective for anyone just starting out.
Definitely recommend Fedora with KDE. I love Mint, but if he wants to get into more customization, Fedora is the way to go since it’s stable and comes with Wayland by default, which is a plus for the future of Linux.
If his hardware isn't the newest, I’d say Linux Mint is a solid choice. It’s user-friendly and great for newcomers. If he has newer hardware, Fedora with KDE or Cinnamon would be better since it's super stable and offers a slick interface with modern features.
What about Gentoo? Just kidding! Maybe dual booting with a fun OS like ‘Hannah Montana OS’ for laughs?
