I'm considering switching to Linux and want to know which distributions would work well with Fallout 4 and my extensive collection of 1400 mods. I'd like to continue my save without spending a full day downloading everything again. I'm currently looking at Bazzite, Mint, and Zorin, but I'm open to other suggestions!

If you’re using Nexus mods rather than Steam mods, getting all of them to work can be pretty hit-or-miss, but it should be doable. I’d recommend steering clear of Mint since it uses X11 and has some limitations with newer setups. Bazzite is also immutable, which might complicate things for you as a newcomer. Instead, check out CachyOS or maybe Fedora or Ubuntu with the CachyOS kernel; they might serve you better. The gaming experience is pretty solid across the board these days—even out-performing Windows in some cases!

I have a GTX 1660 TI; is that considered outdated for these distros?

Not at all! The GTX 1660 TI should still run games decently on Linux as long as you set it up correctly.

X11 works fine with Nvidia, and Mint has some experimental Wayland support that isn’t too shabby. Just make sure you disable full-screen compositing if you go that route. You might also want to consider dropping your game folder and associated app data into your Wine prefix; it could help organize your mods more efficiently. Bazzite does handle Nvidia cards well, though, so that’s worth considering too!

Go with Mint if you want flexibility for installing and customizing your setup. But if you want something straightforward focused on gaming, Bazzite is a solid choice. Just keep in mind that Mint is more of an all-purpose OS while Bazzite is designed with handhelds and gaming rigs in mind.
