I'm looking to set up a remote desktop connection between my Windows 11 laptop and a tablet, as I'm a student in architecture and often travel between campuses. Carrying my entire laptop setup can be cumbersome, so I'd prefer to use a tablet when possible. Here are some specs of my laptop:
- Processor: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700H (2.30 GHz)
- 32 GB RAM
- 64-bit OS
- Touch support with 10 touch points
I'll have wifi access at both locations, but the devices will be used across a distance of about 2-3 hours' travel. I have $500 set aside for a tablet, and I need to access programs like Rhino, SketchUp, AutoCAD, and Enscape, ideally by plugging my laptop into power at home and controlling everything from the tablet. I found some recommendations for tablets that are suitable for architectural work, including a 12-inch or larger display and specs like 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage. Is this accurate? What's the best way to set this up and what tablets do you recommend?

Anydesk is quite popular for remote desktop use. Just make sure to set a password on your remote computer to keep it secure. I've had good experiences with it, but depending on your tablet, sometimes the performance can vary, so make sure you have a good connection!
TeamViewer and AnyDesk are both solid options. I personally use TeamViewer and set up unattended access with just a password for convenience. Be sure your PC is set to never sleep and have AC Recovery on in BIOS just in case of power loss. That way, you'll be good to go!
Thanks for the TeamViewer recommendation! I'm familiar with AnyDesk but wasn't sure about TeamViewer. I'll give it a shot too.

I tried Anydesk on my phone and noticed a delay that made modeling tough. Is that typical? Can I set something up to use a mouse on a tablet? I really need the keyboard up on the screen while I'm working, especially with something like Rhino.
