Best Ways to Secure a Cooler to a Pentium 4 CPU?

I'm working on a retro build with a Pentium 4, and I've noticed it's getting quite hot. I recently picked up a cooler off eBay and thought using zip ties would be a good way to attach it. This method seemed to work fine when the PC was flat on the floor, but the temperatures shoot up when I stand it upright. Any advice on how to properly secure the cooler?

Are you seriously running a Pentium 4? It’s great that you’re going for a retro build, but could you give more details on your temps? Just saying 'high temps' isn't very helpful. When it's flat, gravity helps distribute the pressure, but standing it upright can cause uneven pressure and lead to overheating. Also, just mentioning "Coolermaster" isn't enough; you need to specify which cooler you’re using!

I'm building this for nostalgia, and my temps are likely around 80-85°C. I grabbed a tower cooler from Coolermaster.

Using zip ties isn't the best approach. Try to use the mounting system that the cooler is designed for. It should fit your CPU better that way.

I tried the original mounting, but it didn't fit my motherboard.
