I recently acquired a 5080 graphics card and I'm planning to use my Corsair RM850x power supply from 2018. I have three PCIe cables that came with the power supply, which I believe will connect to the GPU adapter included with the 5080. However, I've heard about a Gen 4 cable that some people are using with these graphics cards. Do I really need that, or will my existing setup be sufficient? Should I consider getting a new power supply instead? Just to note, this power supply was bought new in January 2021.

You can definitely use the adapter cable that comes with the GPU, but I'd recommend picking up the official Corsair cable. It’s built for your power supply and would ensure a better connection without any risk of melting.
Using three separate PCIe cables with the adapter is possible, but adapters can fail or melt, so going for the native Corsair cable might be a safer bet. It's a cleaner setup too! You can find it at places like Best Buy for same-day pickup if you need it quickly. Plus, the RM850x should have no problem powering the 5080.
Honestly, I'd suggest getting a new power supply. There are numerous stories about the 3 PCIe adapter leading to issues like burning connectors, especially with more expensive GPUs. Investing in a good PSU will keep your $1000+ graphics card safe in the long run.

It’s crazy that the Ax1600i doesn't have this connector! Nvidia really took a different route with the design, and it’s not fair to blame Corsair for that.
