Can AI Help with My Java Programming Assignments?

Hi everyone! I'm an older student juggling family and studying, and I've recently started learning Java for a class that isn't tied to my degree. Unfortunately, I've fallen behind quite a bit. As the semester is winding down, I'm considering using AI to help me get through my assignments—even if it's just to understand the material better. I have a couple of questions about this: How detectable is it if someone uses AI for their programming assignments? I plan to type everything out myself instead of just copying and pasting, but I'm curious if that effort is pointless. Thanks for any guidance!

Does your class have strict rules against AI? Many places are becoming more cautious about its use, and you want to be aware of that. If I were you, I'd confirm the guidelines just to steer clear of any trouble.

Yeah, my school has guidelines too. No one wants to risk their grades or integrity. It’s smart to check!

Using AI for programming assignments can definitely be a slippery slope. Some folks find that if you're really learning the material, typing it out yourself is better than just copying and pasting. However, if your assignments are straightforward, professors might spot AI-generated code easily. Plus, relying too much on AI can set you back when things get tougher. Remember, you're paying for this class; you want to really learn!

Totally agree! If you approach it like learning to write by transcribing, it can really help. Breaking down the problems first on paper before getting AI help is a smart method.

It's usually pretty easy to tell if something's AI-generated, especially in coding where the structure and logic often look different than a human's would. Using AI might help you out in the short term, but it can lead to problems down the road if you aren't grasping the concepts yourself. You're better off thinking things through and using AI only to clarify concepts, not to generate entire solutions.

And let’s be real: if you're paying for a class, why not make the most of it? Struggling through might seem hard, but it’s where the real learning happens!

It’s crucial to use AI wisely. If you hit a wall, AI can help explain functions or concepts, but don’t rely on it to write code for you. Try working through examples and then double-checking your understanding with AI. That way, you’re still putting in the effort to learn!
