Can Fresh Graduates Get Hired in DevOps?

It's quite rare for companies to hire freshers for DevOps right off the bat. Most are looking for someone who can hit the ground running. You might have better luck looking for support or operations roles first, then move into DevOps later.

Times are changing! While many firms still want experienced DevOps professionals, some startups and mid-sized companies are now open to hiring freshers. Just make sure your resume highlights relevant skills and projects—there are even internships available that focus specifically on DevOps.

While it's not super common to hire freshers directly into DevOps, I've seen exceptions. In my last job, we brought in a junior who was essentially helping with IT admin tasks while learning the ropes of DevOps on the side. He picked things up quickly and eventually moved to a full-time site reliability engineer role.

DevOps isn't just a standalone role; it's more of a mindset where development teams handle their own operations. I think freshers jumping into DevOps straight away may struggle due to the necessary hands-on experience in software development and systems management. Consider focusing on full-stack development for a few years before transitioning.
