Hey everyone! I've been working with C# for a few years using Visual Studio, and I'm discovering that I really enjoy it. In my last job, I worked part-time developing C# interfaces for a production line to track progress. Currently, I'm also part-time developing a program to help manage warehouse units. However, I've never done full-time development and I believe many companies could improve their processes with custom software. Have any of you worked as self-employed developers creating custom applications? If so, how did you find clients? Thanks for any advice!

I've had success in C# development, but creating custom apps for clients isn’t very common anymore. Most companies will handle their internal tools in-house. I'd recommend aiming for larger companies, especially those working with ASP.NET and backend services.
You might be a little late to the party for that kind of development. Back in the late '90s and early 2000s, bespoke software was more common, but now larger businesses tend to partner with other established companies for IT work. A full-time gig at a solid company might be a better bet.
Creating your own products and selling them can be a more manageable route. That way, you can showcase your skills and build a portfolio by developing more unique solutions.
It's definitely possible to work with C# as a contractor on internal projects. However, hiring solo developers for full apps is pretty rare nowadays, primarily because companies usually prefer bigger teams for their needs. But teaming up as a contractor for a larger firm can lead to some interesting gigs!
Yeah, I agree! Focusing on finding a bigger company could give you a more stable foundation and a better chance for career advancement.
