Can I Easily Access My Photos and Videos on Linux?

I'm thinking about switching from Windows 11 to Linux, and I've got a lot of photos and videos saved from older devices. Currently, some of them require downloading the HEVC Video Extensions from the Microsoft Store to view them. Since there's no Microsoft Store on Linux, I'm curious if I'll still be able to access and view my media without such extensions. What can I expect when it comes to compatibility?

Yeah, HEVC is well supported on Linux. You might need to install some plugins like ffmpeg or gstreamer, but they typically come pre-installed. Just be sure to explore media players like Elisa if you're looking for alternatives to VLC!

Yes, you can definitely view HEVC files on Linux! Most modern Linux distributions come with support for HEIC and similar formats built-in, so you shouldn't have any issues. Just make sure to have VLC installed; it's great for playing most video formats without a hitch.

Also, just a heads up—it's always good to back up your files before making a big switch like this. Better safe than sorry!

Linux works perfectly with photos and videos! The VLC player is widely recommended as it plays pretty much anything you throw at it. Before switching, mention which distribution you're considering so that folks can give you more tailored advice.

And don’t forget to back up your data first! You never know when something might go wrong during the transition.
