I'm currently learning Java and I'm really curious about other people's experiences in landing jobs with just that skill. I'm also thinking about picking up Python, but I'm wondering if it's possible to find a job here in London with only a Java background for now. What do you all think?

Honestly, breaking into the job market with just Java can be tough. The competition is high, and many applicants have strong backgrounds in computer science. Relying solely on knowing Java might not be enough, so be prepared to showcase your coding skills and any projects you’ve worked on.

It’s not just about the language. Employers often look for candidates who can demonstrate strong programming skills across different technologies. If you can show that you’re adaptable and can pick up new languages quickly, that could give you an edge. Plus, focusing on specific domains like backend development or web programming might help narrow your learning.

I’ve been a backend developer using Java for a couple of years now, and while it’s definitely possible to land a job, you might want to explore other languages too. Employers appreciate candidates who can bring diverse experiences, so learning another language can enhance your profile.

Great point about programming skills being more important than just the language! If you're capable of tackling projects and can communicate effectively, you’ll stand out. Those soft skills, along with programming experience, can make a significant difference in getting hired.
