Can I Get a Refund or Store Credit for a Replaced iPhone?

I bought an iPhone 13 from JB Hi-Fi less than a year ago, but it developed some issues over time. I couldn't take it back right away since I was studying elsewhere. Eventually, I contacted JB Hi-Fi, and they told me the phone needed to be sent for repair. When it came back, I learned that it had been replaced instead of repaired. I asked if I could get a refund or store credit for a newer model, but they told me to reach out to Apple. Apple confirmed the replacement but said refunds are up to the retailer. Now JB Hi-Fi is checking with Apple about the possibility of store credit, which may take a few weeks. I'm wondering what my chances of getting store credit are. Is it reasonable to ask for this instead of just accepting the replacement? Would appreciate insights or similar experiences!

Honestly, you're unlikely to get store credit or a refund since they replaced the phone instead of repairing it. Apple doesn't handle refunds for items purchased from retailers, so if JB Hi-Fi says they need to check with Apple, that might not lead anywhere. You could look into trading in your replacement if you're not satisfied with it.

Realistically, just enjoy the replacement iPhone. You can always ask JB Hi-Fi about store credit, but if they say no, consider selling it to a reseller to fund your new phone. It's generally between you and the retailer, not Apple.

Good luck, but I don’t think a store credit will happen just because they replaced your phone. If it’s in decent shape, think about trading it in, but the chances of getting store credit for something bought at another retailer are slim.

Your chances of getting store credit are pretty much zero since they provided you with a functional replacement. Apple won't issue credit for something originally purchased from JB Hi-Fi. Better to focus on selling the phone for what you can and investing that into a new model you want.

Don’t count on getting compensation for a service replacement; that's just how warranties work. If you're eager for a newer model, I'd suggest accepting the replacement, then selling it. Use the cash to help buy a new phone. It’s often the simplest path forward.
