Hey everyone! I have an iPhone 5s that's currently iCloud locked and running on its original iOS version 7.0.4. The original owner doesn't remember their account password, but the phone isn't activation locked, so it's still functional. I'm wondering if I can contact Apple to reset the phone. Specifically, I want to know: 1. Will they update the iOS to the latest version (iOS 12)? 2. Will they even allow a reset? The original owner doesn't have any receipts or proof of ownership besides some personal data on the phone. Should I even bother reaching out to Apple, or is it a waste of time? Also, I reached out to the original owner for proof, but they blocked me, so I'm feeling pretty stuck here.

Apple probably won't help you. They tend to be strict about ownership verification, and without any receipts, you might be out of luck.
Honestly, it sounds like there might be a chance this phone was purchased from a sketchy source. If you got it through something like Facebook Marketplace, it's worth considering filing a claim if it ends up being stolen. As for Apple, they might not help you without proof of ownership, so asking them could be a long shot. Just being real here!

Yeah, I agree. It's tough because Apple usually requires proof of ownership to assist with resets.
