Hey everyone! I'm considering upgrading my iPhone 14 Pro to either the iPhone Air or 17 Pro, and I want to know if I can get the battery replaced through my AppleCare+ since mine is currently at 84%. My carrier's upgrade plan lets me keep the 14 Pro, so I'd like to replace its battery to have it as a backup with fresh power instead of using the old one. I'm also planning to drop the 14 Pro from my AppleCare plan once I get the new one. Does anyone know if Apple will replace the battery for free under AppleCare+ even though it's above 80%, or would there be a fee involved that's less than the full price of a battery replacement without AppleCare?

Nope, it's not going to be covered. And honestly, since there aren't any performance issues, getting it replaced might not even make a difference thanks to its higher capacity.
Unfortunately, AppleCare+ won’t cover the battery replacement unless the diagnostics show that it’s failing, which typically happens when it drops below 80%. They’re cracking down on full paid replacements for batteries above that threshold too.
From what I know, Apple doesn’t replace batteries over 80% capacity at all, even if you're willing to pay for it. They have rules in place against it.
Actually, it can be classified as a customer battery replacement request out of warranty, but many store leaders have made it clear that it won't be possible unless it fails diagnostics. Some people manage to get replacements if they present a good enough case, like saying they’re giving the phone to someone who isn’t tech-savvy.
I get what you're saying. I've heard of some folks getting a paid replacement because they had no AppleCare, but I haven’t seen solid evidence that Apple would replace it for free if you ask them nicely.

Right? I'm starting to doubt the 84% figure since the phone has been saying that for ages. Honestly, I've been pretty hard on the battery, too.
