Why Does My Monitor Keep Shutting Down Randomly?

Hey everyone! I'm having a frustrating issue with my monitor randomly shutting off while my PC remains on. This happens whether I'm gaming (like in Clair Obscur) or just browsing the internet. I've searched online multiple times, but the answers are always the same.

It's been about a month, and I've tried quite a few troubleshooting steps: plugging and unplugging the monitor, using a different outlet, changing HDMI cables, testing with another monitor, switching HDMI ports, and even getting a DisplayPort cable, thinking that might help. However, nothing has worked so far, and I'm starting to worry that my graphics card might be failing.

For context, I'm using an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 12GB, 16GB RAM, and an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-core processor. I've had this setup for around 4-5 years, and I'm on a tight budget, so I can't just buy a new one right now. Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

From what you’re describing, it sounds like the issue could be with the monitor itself. It might be a faulty power source, or the monitor could just be failing.

That’s interesting! It actually happened to me with another monitor before. Super frustrating!

What refresh rate are you running your monitor at? Sometimes, wrong settings can cause flickering or shutdowns.

I think it’s set to about 60Hz. I’ve never really messed with those settings since I’m not very tech-savvy!

You mentioned you bought a DisplayPort cable, right? Make sure your display is plugged into your graphics card and not the motherboard, since that can cause issues.

Yeah, I meant the cable! Sorry about that. And yes, it's definitely connected to the graphics card.

Is your build custom? If so, try reseating your GPU; that helped me with similar issues in the past.

It’s not a custom build, but I did try reseating it last week when I was checking all the connections.

Have you checked if your graphics drivers are up to date? Download the Nvidia app to see if there are any updates. Also, don’t forget to check Windows Updates; sometimes driver updates can really fix monitor problems.

I only saw the .NET framework update available; everything else is good. I’ll keep an eye on this and let you know if updating helps!
