Hey everyone! I'm looking for some advice on managing our VMs with a newly created recovery vault. I've heard that to transition our VMs without losing their current backup data, we need to shift them to new resource groups, and that part seems to work fine. However, I also came across some information suggesting that once the initial backups are completed in the new vault, we should be able to return the VMs to their original resource groups. Unfortunately, that hasn't worked for us. So, I'm curious—can the VMs be moved back to their original resource groups once they've been backed up in the new vault, or do they need to stay in the new resource groups for successful backups? Deleting the old backups is an option, but it could raise compliance issues for us. Thanks for your help!

You can actually keep your backup data when you disable the backup and then reconfigure it with the new vault. We did something similar a while back, and our old restore points were still intact. But definitely test it out in a proof of concept first, just to be safe!
Yeah, based on the latest documentation and my own trials, you can retain backups from the old vault if the VM is moved to a new resource group. I've successfully moved a test VM to the new vault and then to a new resource group, and the backups remained intact. However, when I tried moving it back to the original resource group, the backups ran into errors. So be careful with that!
