I accidentally formatted my SD card and I'm really hoping to recover my data without spending any money. Is there any free way to get my files back?

You might want to try TestDisk; I've used it before and it successfully recovered a lost partition on my microSD card. Since formatting mainly alters the partition table and doesn't erase the actual data, it could potentially work for you. Recuva is another option you could try. It offers a deep scan feature, just make sure not to format your card again if it prompts you.

If you did a quick format, your data might still be intact. A quick format just rewrites the index, making it look empty without actually deleting anything, so there's a chance you can get your files back if you haven't written new data over it.

Right! Just remember, if it was a full format, you're in trouble since it tends to wipe everything.
