I have an old Seagate Momentus Thin 500GB hard drive from an Acer Aspire M5-581T. A while back, I plugged in the laptop, and the outlet literally exploded! I'm worried there may have been an overvoltage issue, but I'm not sure what to check or what it could mean for the hard drive. Can someone help me understand if it was indeed overvolted and if there's any chance I can recover the data? Check out the PCB image here: https://imgur.com/a/t31JuwZ.

It definitely sounds like the hard drive could be damaged if it was overvolted. First, you might want to check for any visible damage on the PCB in that image. Look for burned components or broken traces. To recover data, you can try connecting it to a different adapter to see if it's detectable. If not, you might need to consider professional data recovery if the data is really important.
I agree with DataWizard21. There's a good chance that the power surge affected the drive. Try to connect it to another laptop or desktop using a USB adapter; sometimes, it just needs a new connection to get back up and running. If it shows up but is corrupted, you can use recovery software to try to get your files back.
