Can I Revive My 10-Year-Old Laptop?

I've got this ancient HP Pavilion laptop that's around 10 to 11 years old (model 15t-ab200). I've verified the specs if you're curious. It's been running super slow to the point of being unusable, and I'm wondering if I have any chance of making it functional again. I've already upgraded the RAM, but I'm not sure if it was 16GB or 32GB, since the system cap seems to be 16GB anyway. My initial thought was to swap out the hard drive for an SSD to speed things up. Are there any other upgrades or tweaks, either hardware or software, that could help revive this old machine? I've got a new laptop coming in soon, but I'd like to see if I can salvage this one and make it a decent backup.

You might want to consider installing a lightweight OS like Linux, which doesn't need a lot of resources. Linux distros are great for breathing new life into old computers! If you want something a bit more user-friendly, ChromeOS Flex could also give it a fresh start, kind of like a Chromebook experience without a huge hardware requirement.

Yeah, that sounds pretty fun! I’m all for exploring Linux; it could be a good chance to tinker around without much risk.
