Can I Safely Test My RTX 5070 Ti with a 500W PSU?

I'm in a bit of a tight spot here. I'm wondering if I can use my old 500W Zalman PSU to check if my RTX 5070 Ti works properly and to see its specs in GPU-Z. My other PSU is delayed in shipping from the shop where I've ordered my parts, and I have a week to return the GPU if needed. So, I'm just looking for a quick way to power it up, see if it boots, and check the specs. Is it safe to do this, or are there risks involved?

Make sure your PSU has enough plugs for the GPU. If you’re using an adapter, just double-check that it's compatible. Also, make sure your PSU is in good condition since it's pretty old.

There's an adapter I can use, so that should be okay.

As long as you pair it with a CPU that doesn't draw too much power, you should be good to go. If it tries to pull too much, the system probably won't boot, so you'll be safe in that regard.

Honestly, there's no real risk. If the PSU can't handle the load, it just won’t power on. Just ensure you're not overloading it with a heavy CPU while testing.

I see, thank you for answering 🙂

You should be fine as long as your PSU has the right power connectors and if you're just idling. From my experience, it shouldn't draw more than about 300W when booting up. I tested it with a decent CPU and it worked okay! Just keep an eye on the temperatures and make sure things aren't getting too hot.
