Can I safely use my GTX 1080 with a 6+2 PCIe connector reversed?

I'm trying to connect my old GTX 1080 to my system while I wait for the new graphics cards to come out. However, I've run into a problem with the PCIe 6+2 connector from my MSI MAG A1000GS power supply. It only connects properly in a 2+6 pin configuration rather than the standard 6+2. Is it okay to do this? The 6+2 setup is critical, right? Here's a picture showing my setup; the red wires are the 2 pins and the blue ones are the 6 pins. I'm worried because I've read that connecting it incorrectly could lead to issues, like reversed polarity. What should I do?

Don’t stress too much! PCIe cables are designed to only fit in one orientation due to their keyed design. If it went in smoothly, you did it correctly. Also, if needed, you can actually take off the comb from the connector and flip it around so it faces outward.

Yeah, but I’m still concerned based on what I read: "6+2 connected with the +2 on the right side of the 6 is correct, but if the +2 is on the left, it could cause reverse polarity!"

Generally, if the connector fits without forcing it, you're probably fine to use it as you have. Just make sure you’re not using any extensions that could complicate the connection. By the way, which exact model of the GTX 1080 are you using?

It's a Gigabyte GTX 1080 with three fans and it's the OC model. I made sure not to force it at all, but I’m still worried because I read that the right configuration matters to avoid risks.

Honestly, I think you're worrying a bit too much about this. It should work fine as long as you've connected it correctly. Trust your instincts!

I know, but I'm just anxious because I've seen warnings that mismatched connections might damage the GPU.
