I recently fell victim to an Apple gift card scam. I bought 9 gift cards thinking I was sending them to a trusted person, but it turned out to be fraudulent. I shared the codes with the scammer but contacted Apple right away. Thankfully, they confirmed that the cards hadn't been redeemed yet and could be blocked. I've been waiting for over 14 days now after Apple advised me to hold on while their team looked into it.
Recently, a support agent suggested I redeem the cards into my own account instead, but then mentioned that one card had been claimed, contradicting what I was initially told. This led me to suspect that something fishy could be going on. Now, I have a sizeable balance in my Apple account, but since I'm in India, I can only use it for digital purchases, which isn't helpful. I'm looking for advice on what steps I should take from here.

I don't think the agent claimed the card. You should really work on online safety, though. Your best bet now is to attempt a chargeback through your card, but keep in mind—this may get your account banned regardless of the outcome.
If you frequently use Apple services or app subscriptions, you might just let the balance ride out until it’s spent. But be cautious—if you file a chargeback with Amazon, it could lead to your Apple ID being disabled permanently, and that’s happened to quite a few users.
