Can I switch my 2013 gaming laptop to Linux and still play games?

I'm looking to revitalize my old ROG laptop, a G750JW-BBI7N05 from 2013, which can't upgrade to Windows 11. My specs are pretty decent with an Intel Core i7-4700HQ CPU, 24GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M graphics card. I have a 500GB SSD and a 1TB HDD too. I have experience with RHEL and some gaming on a Steam Deck, along with plenty of Windows use. I'd like to know if I can install Linux and still enjoy gaming on it, possibly accessing games from the Play Store or my Steam library. Is that realistic, or should I just keep it as a Windows 10 machine? Any advice would be appreciated!

You should definitely check out Linux Mint for that laptop! It should run smoothly on your hardware. While I can't guarantee the Play Store will work flawlessly, Steam performs really well on Linux, especially with Proton support for many games. You can visit ProtonDB to get an idea of which games are compatible!

Honestly, your laptop's specs are better than mine, and I still enjoy playing games on it. Transitioning to Linux for gaming is totally feasible! Just a heads up, I'm not sure how the Play Store will pan out, but Steam is a go. You might want to look at Bazzite.gg for additional game compatibility info!

Yeah, I think sticking with Steam might be the way to go. Appreciate the tips!
