Can I Transfer My Windows 11 Home License from My Laptop to a New PC?

I recently built a new PC and installed Windows 11 Pro on it, but I haven't activated it yet. I've been using it for about three weeks now without activation, thinking about purchasing a license. However, I realized that I might be able to transfer my Windows 11 Home license from my laptop to this new PC. I've already installed Linux on my laptop, and it seems my Windows license is linked to my account. If I do decide to transfer the license, do I need to reinstall Windows 11 Home on my new PC? I'd really prefer not to go through the hassle of reinstalling everything and setting up all my apps again. For reference, I have an HP Pavilion x360 laptop. I'd love to hear from anyone who has faced a similar situation!

You could look into purchasing a Windows key from various online sources. I managed to grab a Windows Pro key from Stack Social for just $10, and it worked perfectly! Just check the sellers' reputations and reviews before buying.

Laptops generally have licenses bound to their serial numbers, so it's typically impossible to transfer them. I'd suggest saving yourself the trouble and just buy a new Windows 11 Pro key. They're not too expensive!

Yeah, that’s what I’m leaning towards now. Just easier that way!

If your laptop came with Windows pre-installed, it's likely that the license is an OEM license, which means it's tied to that specific laptop and is not transferable. Unfortunately, that means you won't be able to use it on your new PC. You might want to just buy a new Windows 11 Pro key instead. It’ll save you the headache in the long run!

Thanks for the clarification! I guess I'll have to look into getting a new license.

I’ve heard good things about some sites selling budget Windows keys. Just make sure you get them from trustworthy places to avoid any issues after the purchase.
