Can I use a 650 watt power supply with a 5070 ti temporarily?

I'm planning to get a 5070 ti but I haven't purchased a power supply yet. The recommended wattage for this GPU is 750 watts, but I'm looking at a 1000 watt option. In the meantime, can I safely run my system with a 650 watt power supply for a few weeks without damaging anything, or should I wait for the higher wattage unit?

I actually ran a 5090 with a lower watt PSU for a while and it worked out fine for me. Just manage your usage carefully and consider undervolting or power limiting to stay within safe ranges. If you're gaming lightly, you probably won't hit maximum draw often.

If your total system draw doesn't go over 650 watts, you're good! The 5070 ti draws about 300 watts, so just make sure to account for your CPU, fans, and other components. It's common for forums to recommend oversized PSUs, but a solid 650 watt unit can typically handle most setups that don’t go extreme with overclocking.

You should be fine as long as your components don't try to pull more power than your PSU can provide. If they do exceed that limit, the PSU's overcurrent protection will kick in and your system will simply shut down to prevent damage. No harm should come to your hardware if the PSU is functioning properly.
