Hey everyone! I'm trying to upgrade my new Lenovo Gen 4 AMD ThinkPad with a WD Black 8TB SN850X SSD. The sales agent told me it only supports single-sided M.2 drives, but I found that a dual-sided SSD fits in the slot. However, the bottom side of the drive would rest against a purple pad on the motherboard. I'm concerned about whether this could cause overheating issues or other problems. Should I just opt for a single-sided 4TB SSD instead? I noticed that there's no single-sided 8TB option available currently.

That thermal pad is actually designed to be in contact with the SSD, so that’s not a problem. The key thing to keep an eye on is where the controller is located, which is usually on the top side. If there's another thermal pad on the top, that should help keep things cool. You might be good to go with the 8TB SSD!
Thanks for clarifying! There is indeed a thermal pad on the top side, plus a flat copper heat spreader—sounds promising!
