I'm wondering if it's possible to pair a Ryzen 7 7700X CPU with an MSI B550 AM4 motherboard. Is there a way to do this, or do I specifically need a Ryzen 5 5800X instead?

You can't install an AM5 CPU like the Ryzen 7 7700X into an AM4 socket, unfortunately. They are not compatible at all.
If you're trying to build a gaming PC using your existing AM4 components, that's smart! But just keep in mind you won't be able to use the 7700X with an AM4 board. It would be better to look for a Ryzen 5 5800X instead since it's designed for AM4.
Technically, you won't know unless you try, but I wouldn't recommend it. Trying to force compatibility could damage your CPU.
