I'm thinking about getting an iPad since my wife and both our families all use iPhones. They often tease me about the green bubbles since I have a non-Apple phone, but honestly, it doesn't bother me. I just want to make them happy and thought an iPad could be a good compromise.
The basic iPad costs around $350, and I'm curious if I can use it to send messages (like iMessage) and make FaceTime calls, despite not having an iPhone. I prefer not to get an iPhone because I know I'd end up spending too much time on it. With an iPad, I wouldn't carry it around all the time, making it a more deliberate choice to use it. I want to make sure it can actually be used for family group chats and FaceTime. Any advice?

One thing to note: when you set up your Apple Account, you will need to add a phone number initially. Apple usually sends a verification code to that number, which might be tricky if you’re on a non-smartphone. But if you already have an Apple ID, you can choose to have them call you with the code instead of sending a text. Just be cautious during the initial setup!
Yes, you can definitely use an iPad for FaceTime and iMessage without needing an iPhone! Just set it up with your Apple ID email, and you'll be good to go. Your family will be able to message you without any green bubbles!
Awesome, thank you! This sounds perfect!
You can also use any email you register to your Apple ID for iMessage and FaceTime, just keep that in mind! This way, everything can still flow smoothly.
