Can I use an old SSD from my laptop in my new PC build?

I recently salvaged a 3rd generation Intel 660p SSD from my old gaming laptop that stopped working. Now, I have a new build with an Asus TUF B850 motherboard, and I'm wondering if I can use this SSD as a secondary drive. Will it work without any issues? Also, can I still access the operating system and data stored on it? Just to add, I'm currently using a 4th generation Samsung Evo 990 SSD alongside it, and I'm curious if mixing SSD generations will create any problems.

You should be good to go! Just make sure that the old SSD isn't set as the boot drive; otherwise, it could cause issues with your system startup.

Definitely check the drive's health using CrystalDiskInfo. You'll want to keep an eye on its overall usage percentage to make sure it’s still in good condition before relying on it as a secondary storage.

It's a 1TB SSD, and I think I still have around 600-700GB left after my laptop died. Does that affect its performance or usability?

It sounds like a pretty standard 3x4 NVMe drive. You shouldn't have any major problems mixing generations; just keep the firmware updated when possible!
