Can I Use De-Ionised Water to Clean My AIO Cooler?

I'm trying to clean out my NZXT AIO cooler because I think it might be clogged. The seller mentioned it failed, and it sounds like there's gunk inside. I want to see if I can save some cash rather than buying a new one. I also have an old NZXT Kraken X62 that could use some maintenance. Is special coolant necessary, or is de-ionised water enough for this task? Just to note, both AIOs have removable copper heat plates, so I can access the cooling loop, but I'm not entirely sure what to use for cleaning. Any tips?

Most AIO coolers aren't really designed to be serviced, which can be frustrating. If your AIO is one that allows for some disassembly, that's great! Otherwise, you're really looking at either replacing the AIO, switching to an air cooler, or diving into a custom water loop which can be a little more involved. Just keep in mind that using any fluids should be safe for the components you have.

Since your AIO has torx screws for the heat plate, you're already ahead! Just take care when opening it up, and don't forget to handle the gunk safely!

Yeah, it's unfortunate that so many AIOs can't be serviced easily. I think it would be awesome if they could be! While you're at it, you might consider selling your old AIO on eBay—there are people looking to experiment with these kinds of things. They might want it for a cheaper price than new. 60e

Good idea! I might just do that. But I still wonder about the fluids when I refill the AIO. Any suggestions?
