I'm looking for information on whether I can connect third-party email clients to Mail.com. I used to use K-9 Mail but stopped due to concerns about security and privacy. Recently, I attempted to use Thunderbird, but I keep getting an "Invalid Credentials" error even though I know my account and password are correct since I'm able to log in on the desktop site. I'm trying to connect to imap.mail.com on port 993. I also tried ProtonMail's Easy Switch but faced the same issue. Has Mail.com or GMX disabled all IMAP/POP access?

Just a heads up, POP and IMAP access for Mail.com is actually a Premium feature now, so if you’re on a free account, that might be why you're hitting those issues. It’s worth checking if upgrading is an option for you, but I totally understand the frustration with having to pay for something that used to be included.
Yeah, it feels pretty scammy to suddenly limit access and push the premium service. I think I'm looking to move my email somewhere else as well.
You're correct that many users were caught off guard with this shift to Premium-only access. It's definitely frustrating that they didn’t notify existing users about the new restrictions. If you’re not keen on their paid plans, there are plenty of other email providers out there that offer good privacy and security features.
Totally! I switch over to another provider that doesn’t try to trap you with extra fees. There are a lot of good alternatives that prioritize user privacy and security.
For sure! Make sure to look into providers who have good IMAP support for free accounts.

I had no idea they changed that! I've had my account since 2012 too and never got any alerts about the changes. Sounds like a bait-and-switch move to me.
