Can LCD Screens Really Get Burn-In?

I've heard that LCD screens shouldn't suffer from burn-in like OLED screens do since they don't have self-emissive pixels. However, I'm noticing some faint ghosting on my display that looks like something is stuck on the screen. Is this actually burn-in, or is it something else? Can I fix it, and is it permanent? Thanks!

Yes, LCD screens can experience a form of burn-in, but it's not as common as with OLEDs. If you're seeing ghosting, it might be due to pressure on the screen or even some form of moisture. It could also be a sign of delamination, especially if your screen is from a less expensive model. Make sure the device is in good condition, and if it’s swelling or damaged, you might need to look into repairs.

It looks like there might be more at play here than just typical burn-in. If you're getting dark and light patches, it could stem from delamination, which can happen with lower-quality displays. Since you're using an iPad, it's less likely to be serious damage, but if pressure is causing this, getting it checked out would be smart.

Burn-in can happen with LCDs, though it's not as likely as with OLED screens. If someone tends to keep the same image up for a long time, like a static wallpaper, that could result in a slight ghosting effect. Your iPad should have a quality screen, though, so if you're noticing significant issues, it might be worth checking for any damage behind the screen, possibly due to a swollen battery.
