I've been receiving calls from about five different numbers daily, and sometimes I answer or even text back. Recently, I texted a woman who claimed she hadn't called me. This makes me wonder: is it really possible for scammers to use someone else's phone number without their consent?

Besides caller ID spoofing, SMS spoofing is also a serious problem where scammers impersonate known contacts. They can make their messages appear to come from banks or other trusted sources, which can confuse people. Some countries have implemented measures to combat this, but the issue persists globally.

Just to clarify, yes, scammers can spoof any number they like. It’s a good idea to check with your phone provider, as many have systems in place to block these types of calls. Who are you with? That might help clarify things!

I totally get what you're going through! I used to get calls about a personal loan multiple times a day from different numbers. It got so annoying that I eventually had to change my phone number. If the numbers are from a different area than yours, it’s likely a scammer trying to hide their identity.

That's pretty much what I'm considering, too! It seems like changing numbers might be the only solution.

It's alarming how sophisticated these scammers have become. But seriously, if you’re responding to these calls, you might be feeding into their tactics. Just a thought!

Yes, they can definitely do this through a technique known as "Caller ID spoofing." Scammers can falsify the number that appears on your caller ID, making it seem like they're calling from a legitimate number. It's become quite a widespread issue lately.
