Hey everyone! I'm pretty new to internet privacy and tech stuff, but I've been curious about IP addresses. Can someone actually figure out a person's precise current location just by using their IP address? I'd love to hear your insights on this topic!

In conclusion, if you're just a regular person without special access, you won’t be tracking anyone precisely. Law enforcement has the means to get closer with legal requirements, but for us regular folks, it's just city-level info at most.
Many people say you can’t get exact locations, but I once tracked a friend’s IP to a park bench using coordinates. So now I'm a bit unsure if it's possible or not!
Lol, I can totally see why this would concern people! Tracking someone like that could have serious implications.
You can usually get to within about 50 km of someone's location if they're not using a VPN. But, the accuracy can really depend on their ISP and how traffic is routed. I've seen my own location show up as an entirely different city before because of this!
Yeah, I think a lot of this depends on the network setup and if someone is using a VPN.
Exactly! Sometimes it can be way off.
Nope, you can't pinpoint someone's exact location with just their IP address. Generally, IP addresses don't contain location data, though there's something called IP Geolocation that can get you close, usually just down to the city level at best. That said, it's not super reliable and can even be off by a bit.
Yep, usually just the city or nearby area. So nothing too specific.
True, but it can sometimes be surprisingly accurate in the right situations.
That's wild! But I think such cases are super rare.
